ORGANIZATIONS

MLK Memorial Planning Committee - In 1973, Alexandria civic leader and activist, Alice P. Morgan initiated the City’s first memorial program in honor of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program was endorsed by then Mayor Charles Beatley to be held on King’s birthday. This was a decade prior to President Ronald Reagan signing the holiday bill into law in 1983 and three decades prior to every state recognizing and celebrating Dr. King’s birthday as a National Holiday in 2000. We now celebrate Dr. King’s birthday in Alexandria every year.

Wilderness Kids Alexandria - Wilderness Kids Alexandria provides life-enriching experiences in nature to teenagers from under-resourced families in Alexandria, Virginia.

Cervivor - We are a sisterhood. We are your educators and your advocates. We are voices that roar instead of whisper. We are a movement to end cervical cancer.

Together We Bake - Together We Bake is a comprehensive workforce training and personal development program for underserved and underrepresented women. We help women gain self-confidence, transferable workforce skills, and invaluable hands-on experience, which will allow them to find employment and move toward self-sufficiency.
